Popped into this calm, peaceful tea room for my father’s birthday. The friendly staff told us that this is the oldest tearoom in New Zealand. Indoor and outdoor seating with lots of fruit trees growing out back. Not much food to choose from but definitely give their scones a go! It’s delicious! My sister and mother loved their homemade pies as well. They also have gluten free items, and dont forget to try their tea!
This is a lovely wee spot to stop at if you feel like afternoon tea or a snack. They don't really do a large range of lunch time dishes, so we found it best for a snack. The owner is very friendly and it's a lovely way to spend an hour or so on a sunny afternoon. We've sat inside and out, both quaint settings.
Had read they are the oldest tearoom in NZ serving Devonshire tea so thought we'd stop off here for a late lunch/afternoon tea. Fairly basic setting with little tables everywhere outside and some inside. Grounds need a bit of a manicure but with pukeko, cats, sheep & other creatures it was quite the quaint setting. The greeting from the 'man' was very friendly and we got a speel about the history of the place. I didn't like that we were trying to have a private conversation about what we wanted and he wouldn't give us space to do so and when we ordered 1 Devonshire tea he asked what my partner was going to drink, so I mentioned we would share it.. he said we don't do that and muttered something.. we then got 2 teas (an extra $3.50) but it was so good we were pleased we had. However he should have asked our permission to charge the extra $3.50. We also ordered 2 sausage rolls ( they don't do the hot food after 3pm apparently)..but he then said he would do it for us when I said we may move on.. Might take the kids there in the holidays. I saw a kids pack on the menu. The food was fantastic. Best & biggest sausage rolls ever ( $5 each) and a scone the size of Africa which fed two of us easily. Wonderful lunch & Devonshire tea for $25.00.
