Always good to go into real groovy and have a look around. It's hard to walk out without having picked up some kind of a bargain. I quite like how instead of just closing down, they've rented out space to other businesses, making it a one-stop shop.

Remember when the Auckland CBD was littered with record stores? Well you must be in your mid-30s too. Real Groovy is the last man standing, and still one of the best places to pick up a bargain CD, or chance upon that obscurity you'd been looking for for ages. Sure, the place has its faults - the music playing over the PA is invariably awful, and the staff can be a little too cool for school at times, but this place is an Auckland icon, and still a great place to waste a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Have spent many a day searching through vinyls at Real Groovy and the selection is getting better and better

As a vinyl enthusiast Real Groovy is guilty of sucking away hours of my time as i trawl through box after box of LP's looking for elusive gems. Aside from that the book section always has some interesting additions, and the clothing range (particularly the stuff that Peachy Keen vintage has) is unique and definitely not something you'd find many other places.

Real Groovey is 100% corporate free and it shows. The whole store shows off their love of music from the layout of their enormous album collection to the relaxed genuinely interested and friendly staff. There's a massive sale going on at the moment so be sure to drop in to pick up some aural candy!

I'm not exactly sure if this shop will be here for too much longer. But it's weird to think within the space of 10 years, CD shops have gone from the hottest hangout for teenagers to somewhere no teenager would ever be caught dead in. Real Groovy is really shop of its times. Unfortunately times have changed, so check it out before it's gone.

Real Groovey has survived for the long run for a reason, in a rapidly declining industry their  business model is constantly evolving. Peachy Keen Aucklands best vintage clothing store have set up shop within the giant store on Queen Street, as well as an atomic coffee joint. As a teenager I would pour my money into cd's which I have since traded in for vinyl. The staff are a bunch of music aficionados who provide the best advice and guidance from literature to vinyl. From brand new to second hand cds, dvds and vinyl, vintage and new clothing, art, music, food and pop culture books and damn good coffee Real Groovy will keep on trucking for another 30 years yet.
