Home to some of New Zealand’s most popular tattoo artists, Sacred is often booked up weeks in advance with good reason. Clean, cool and definitely inspiring, these guys are responsible for some of the best work in town.

you might have to wait a little bit, but it's well worth it

Sacred is a tattoo institution and has a wealth of talent in it's stable of tattooists. Artists include Dean Sacred, Dan Anderson, Mark Tumaru, Hamish Mclauchlan, Capilli Tupou and a host of guest artists including Rose Hardy and Steve Wood. The work ranges from traditional to Asian influenced designs and a huge variety of original and custom work. They are professional and have a reputation for some of the best tattoo work in New Zealand.

Sacred Tattoo is one of Auckland’s top tattoo shops. Located in an arcade in the middle of K’rd the place has a friendly vibe and the depth of artists will certainly be able to create a piece suited just to what you are after. Pictured is a piece from my favourite artist there, Capilli. His ugly old school has quickly gained in popularity and you might have to wait a while till he’s free to mark you with some of his distinctive work!

Sacred has a great name because they have great tattooists. Dean is amazing and booked out for months because he's that good and internationally renown, Capilli has a great traditional/ Old school style. I personally get Steve Wood to do my tattoos when he's back in the country cos he is amazing and fast, and he works out of here when he's back. The other tattooists are also amazing, and most have won awards etc. The place is clean and well run. Don't expect weird tribal tattoos, or lower back dolphins. They are real artists and are in a league of their own. Check out their facebook for examples of their work

Definitely agree with this, Steve Wood is amazing!!

I went to sacred tattoo and got my feet tattooed by the amazing Steve Wood. The shop is awesome, still central on K' Road but tucked away in a lil private arcade makes it an easy location to get to. Everyone is super friendly and were really flexibly when I had to move my appointment. One thing I noticed about the shop was how clean it was! Hygine is definitely high on their priority list. I will definitely be going back to get my next tat done there but remember to take cash as they dont have eftpos/credit card facilities!

These guys are artists, dont come here if your looking to pick something off the wall or get a tiny butterfly on your ankle. They specialize in large pieces and sleeves etc. They have a lot of artistic integrity so do your research on each artist there and go with the one that suits you the most, also be prepared for them to express their own ideas and how they see the end product. They are really good at what they do, you can trust them. I also had my work done by Dark Mark and get great comments all the time. These guys get booked out way in advance so be prepared to wait your turn but its worth it for the best tattoo work in auckland.

Mark at sacred has done all of my tattoos and I am very happy with them. They are true works of art and executed with such skill that strangers often will stop me on the street and say 'you know I don't normally like tattoos but yours are really very beautiful'. A decision not made lightly and I chose Mark at sacred because his work speaks for itself. Communication via email and bookings with rachel on the desk are always friendly and professional. I always recommend these guys when people ask me where to go for a tattoo.
