These guys crush it. Great selection of Japanese food, with what looks to be a specialty on Katsu curry. Big servings, fast service, nice and cheap, and a huge range of soups to keep you warm over winter.

With different size bowl to choose from ranging $7 - 12. Great joint for a reliable, cheap and filling meal.

Saika have been serving up bowls of delicious donburis and curry dishes for over a decade now. I first visited during my first year at University, and provided me with good food during many late nights up at the labs. Their decour is simple, with a big glass sliding door facing the sidewalk. You place your order at the counter and take a seat in the main dining area. Staff here are very friendly and will always help with any questions that you might have. It's semi-self-service here, with water and hot tea avalible for free.  For tonight, I have picked the pork katsu curry, with a side order of takoyaki. Tasted exactly the same as the first time I ordered here, crispy pork cutlet with a panko crust, a generous serving of rice and rich, slightly sweet Japanese style curry sauce. They also do lunch and dinner bento boxes, but I recommend their donburi bowls and curry dishes. Consistantly good value, uncomplicated Japanese food.

I've been here a few times, and I've always been impressed by the food, the cleanliness of the place, the service and the prices. I generally get the set menu (i can't remember exactly what they call it), that comes with a small main, sushi, miso, salad etc. It's really bang for your buck. If you're nearby, I'd recommend popping in and checking it out.

This place is tiny! But you really get the feeling you're eating in some subway station Japanese restaurant in middle of Tokyo. They do a lot of "don" dishes like Katsudon and Gyudon. Go with Katsudon - stir-fried egg and onion with deep fried katsu pork and you can't go wrong.
