Sanders Reserve is a multi-purpose recreational park located 26km north west of Auckland. Covering 41 hectares of land, visitors can enjoy magnificent views over the Waitematā Harbour.

There is a uniquely designed visitor centre located onsite, along with areas suitable for dog walking, picnicking and horse riding.

The council invested a large amount of money in developing 22 km of mountain bike trails which opened to the public in 2011. Included is a designated children's section suitable for under 10s.

10/10 for investment 1/10 for design and knowing how to make a bike trail. Even for families this is a flowless slog.

Thanks for your feedback on Sanders Reserve and the state of its bike trails, Simon. Appreciate your local scout knowledge. Where do you like to ride your mountain bike in your area?

The council have invested in some great infrastructure here. And at only 30 min drive from central Auckland this is some of the best mountain biking close to the city. There is trail for kids of you want to bring the family. Otherwise there is plenty fun for the grown ups with 20kms of trail and best of all you can have a shower at the end! It's also an awesome spot for dogs because there's lots of space for them to run.
