Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy myself at this restaurant however I was a bit disappointed at the menu, many items were very hard to work out what the dish was. I was totally indecisive over what to order but ended up with a flat noodle type style dish with prawns and chicken, it was quite spicy but bearable. The food was averagely tasty but I didn't feel as though it wow'd me. All in all an OK experience. Maybe better luck next time!
Newmarket is famous for high end fashion and a growing array of top class cafes, but once these places shut up shop the streets tend to be relatively lifeless. Selera's not one of those restaurants that you have to peer inside to get an idea of what it's like, in fact its large street-facing windows makes it look very inviting indeed, especially later in the evening when you're not even sure what else is open in the area. Great for a spot of fast, cheap dinner before a movie or if you're just feeling too lazy to cook.
Selera has become a regular visit for me for the past 3 years or so and I am never disappointed. Every dish I have tried has tasted fantastic and is made with quality in mind. And they're quite large servings too, which is especially perfect if you order to share like I do. Try the yummy mummy chicken, it's my favorite!
Selera is highly recommended, great place to pop into for quick, cheap, cheerful, authentic, quality Malaysian food. My 11 old son loves it in particular for what he deems to be the best laksa in Auckland. To be fair he's tried quite a few. Some great Malaysian staples done really well, with a minimum of fuss.
