It’s no secret that I love Shantytown. I have great memories of this place when I visited as a kid. The replicat 1860’s West Coast mining town is full of fun and adventure – the vintage steam train is my favourite, and so is panning for gold

    The fun never stops at Shantytown. Take a day off work these school holidays and purchase the The Shantytown Kids Zone Family Pass. There are loads of kids activities including the opportunity for them to see what it was like to go to school in a gold rush town – this includes spelling on a slate and saying ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’. Brilliant!

      With an amazing selection of objects and photographs all relating to the West Coast’s history from 1850 to 1940, Shantytown is an attraction that will inspire and amaze. There’s a particular focus on the area’s gold rush period and you even get the opportunity to mine for your own gold!
