Tucked in the Old Bank Arcade is Smiths the Grocer, this place is ideal for either a long or quick stay. Specialising in comfort food from local sourced food, suitable for speed and long stays, you can take yourself out of the main cafe area and down a few stairs and find yourself in a comfortable environment away from the bustle. A highly advisable stop for food that is homely and well made, with the ability to just sit down and hide away.

    Smith The Grocer has a wide range of high-quality cabinet food at different price points, making it a popular choice for office and retail workers at lunchtime in the Lambton Quay area. Being situated smack-bang in the middle of Old Bank Arcade, it has a fast-paced, lively atmosphere, but if you're looking to linger over lunch the downstairs area is a little more quiet, with a wide range of reading material to choose from. The coffee is pretty good, too (by no means a given in the CBD, even in Wellington).
