A great historical landmark in Invercargill, you may be surprised to learn that the Southland Museum and Art Gallery is also home a 110 year old reptile!

If you’re looking for a free thing to do this winter then you can’t beat SMAG. I love it for their live Tuatara enclosures - these creatures are incredible to look at!

Step on in and say a big hello to the centenarian Henry the Tuatara and over 50 of his offspring! The Southland Museum and Art Gallery have a range of activities for children these school holidays including visual art education programmes for the children to unleash their inner Vincent van Gogh.

We all know and love the legendary ‘World’s Fastest Indian’ now check out the attraction at Southland Museum and Art Gallery. They even have the world’s largest display of the pre-historic Tuatara. There’s heaps for the kids to discover at this museum and art gallery – there’s even a café to relax in once you’ve had enough of exploring and learning.

Check out some of the fun education displays and activities at Southland Museum and Art Gallery. Although there is no dedicated school holiday programme, you’re bound to be educated and entertained anyway. There are some fun visual art workshops to participate in which will have you wanting more!
