I've been regularly attending Splore since 2001 when it was held on a wind-swept cliff at Kariotahi Beach and to watch the evolution of this incredibly unique festival has been an absolute privilege. What was once a bi-annual event is now an annual event due to the fact that Splore go-ers just couldn't bear to wait two years between festivals - that's how good this three-day extravaganza is. And while it had a few homes before it found the perfect setting that is Tapapakanga Regional Park, nothing beats this site because you can swim all day without missing the live acts (yes, the main stage is right by the water!). And if you've got a boat, you can even sail into Splore, set the anchor down and get amongst it. I've been to parties all over the globe but, to be honest, nothing beats a weekend at Splore. It is a very special experience because each iteration of this festival transports you to a different place. Plus, I love the fact that it is 100% sustainable and everyone who attends takes their rubbish off-site, leaving the sacred land as pristine as it was before. The markets and local food producers also provide fantastic meals to give you sustenance and energy for the dance floor so it's best just to take in lots of snacks and water and buy your meals on-site. And don't forget an inflatable, a boogie board or a blow-up boat because it means you can while away the day, floating on the water, listening to a wide-variety of music producers from both NZ and around the globe #noplacelikesplore
