Northland's Taheke Tavern is located in a historic building dating back to 1842. Formerly known as the Taheke Hotel and Taheke Coach Hotel, the earliest records show a licence was granted in 1871, although locals believe it was a working pub well before that.
A popular meeting point for locals and visitors passing through, today the tavern is a popular bar and restaurant, along with offering four comfortable guest rooms.
With various events taking place onsite including karaoke, quiz nights and the occasional live band, they also run a catering service specialising in traditional hangi meals.

The Taheke Tavern is a classic. I’m warning you now, it’s a bit rough around the edges but well loved all the same. You’ll find a swarthy bunch of locals in here. If you can hold their gaze you’ll be rubbing shoulders and singing sea shanties in no time. I love bringing visitors here for a taste of the true Far North.
