Takahe is kind of like the cool kid in the village. It’s a little fancier than most - see curly fries. But it’s got just as much as heart as the rest of the village. You’ll see locals popping in here after work for a beer or three. Tradies perched on the stools out front and couples getting cosy inside under the heaters. The food is great, and lives up to it’s fancy-ish reputation with it’s topper presentation. It’s an all rounder really, a nice spot for a romantic meal, a girly catch up over three or so winos, or a few pints in your stubbies.

Nice place top grab a bite

Great spot for a casual drink or yummy food

I totally enjoyed my eggs benedict I had for brunch from here.

Absolutely loved having lunch here.  Amazingly tasty food.  Great atmosphere, even on the rainy day that we ventured out on.

A limited menu but a great atmosphere, and their warm clamari salad is amazingly good! Best of all, they are the only place in NZ to do authentic Buffalo Wings the way they were invented!

We went to Takahe twice during an Easter-break trip to the Waitakeres. Our tempura fish was good. But the real reason to go here is for the wine selection and a handful of delicious beers. The wait staff is friendly and attentive and if it's not too cold to sit out front for the people watching, that's the place to be. It's one of the last places for good food before you head north into the hinterlands.

We enjoyed a great Sunday afternoon meal and drink, hiding away from winter.  The service was really friendly and efficient, it was nice to see a restaurant where staff weren't run off their feet and had time to serve properly. Takahe is located with great views back over west Auckland and there is always easy parking around the village.  The atmosphere is quiet considering how busy it was while we were there, and the venue offers the chance for a sidewalk beer, meal on a deck with a view, or, a quiet seat inside.

There aren't many bars out West because it used to be a dry area and so it seems Takehe have taken advantage of the gap in the market to include a 'bar' offering in their restaurant and cafe. The only thing that really makes it bar-like is the fact that it has a bar snacks menu- but this is well thought out and they also have a good range of beers (including low alcohol and a gluten free option) and wines by the glass (almost twenty wines by the glass including an organic wine!).

i have only been here a few times considering im a local to these parts, they seem to lack something that has no invitation like the other cofe shops around. either way i went in and enjoyed my coffee, it took a little longer than other shops but the service was friendly and i never saw her without a smile so i cant say anything about the service. good job.
