It has something for everyone. You can learn so much about New Zealand and it’s wonderful people.

It’s free, it’s indoors, it’s warm, can wander around for hours, kids love it, lots of interactive displays and special exhibitions

Winter means windy and rainy season, so why not we explore somewhere 'inside'? Te Papa is always a perfect destination for any ages.

I mean, this wouldn’t be a Wellington list without Te Papa….Whether you’ve been living in the city for years, or if you’re just passing through, it's never not worth a visit, really. Highly educational I’m sure.

Such a neat tourist attraction - and great for the kids!

New Zealand’s national museum offers some great exhibitions on our past with some great sections and large exhibitions if you have any loose change. But with the majority of the museum free of charge it’s a great place to spend a day discovering, and seeing what New Zealand’s top museum has to offer.

Such an awesome museum in Wellington - we are so lucky to have it. Always take friends and family here when they're visiting out of town. #myfoodbag

Te Papa has plenty to engage kids of all ages, from the interactive learning space for the little ones to the more challenging exhibits for teenagers and even 20-somethings. The contemporary New Zealand history features, like the earthquake simulator and Golden Years exhibit, are especially engaging. There’s so much to get through you won’t be able to see it all in one go, so perhaps spread it over a couple of trips to the capital.

I love tepapa! It's amazing to see there is so much history and culture of New Zealand that has not died out and been stored for future generations to see. It's fascinating to know that all of these things actually existed. It's as if seeing mythical creatures being stored in glass for display! It is truly amazing! #housebound

It’s tempting to think that once you’ve been to Te Papa once you’ve seen it all, but it’s worth a repeat trip once or twice a year, especially if you’ve got kids – it’s impossible to cram every floor into one visit. The giant squid and accompanying 3D video; kid’s zone in amongst the natural history exhibit; and hologram show about Maori settlement are highlights.
