I, like most Aucklanders, consider myself a bit of a coffee snob. I used to have to venture far and wide for a fine flat white, which is no easy task early on a Saturday morning. Thank heavens for The Antique Store and their adoption of Supreme Coffee (which has happens to be quite possibly the best coffee ever) which serves us a decent drop of coffee in Howick illage. They also have homemade nosh, literally made on site and tastes just like your Nana used to make. What a combination, world class coffee and home made muffins surrounded by brick a brick and antique finery.
This is an odd store in the very best way! Taking the unique (in my experience) approach of combining a cafe and antique shop. It’s a surprising mix that works really well! Tables are set in and amongst an array of really fabulous art pieces, kitchenware and fascinating contraptions from yesteryear. Staff are polite and helpful and more than willing to have a chat about the coffees or curiosities on display with equal enthusiasm. I was surprised and delighted to find a selection of old film cameras on display, not something you can get your hands on readily anymore! It’s great to see so much old art on display in conjunction with the warm wood, soft but adequate lighting and courteous staff of an upmarket cafe. A must visit for a fascinating browse or coffee in Howick Village!
Next time you are in Howick pop in and check the goodies stocked in the Antique shop. Collectables or curios all available under one roof and you can grab a coffee while you are there. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Its a gem of a store you will want to rush back to often to experience the charm of times gone by.
The shop is fantastic. I absolutely love the collection of antiques and modern interior design items. Could look around for hours. It has a cafe too! - full of delicious food. The only thing letting it down for me is that the coffee is only just a pass. There is a sister store next door of just antiques. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Howick.
