This place is an oasis.Order some earthy vegetarian food, and head upstairs to drink in the meditative ‘Sri Chimnoy’ music, while listening to the trickling water fountain and enjoying the lush green of all the plants up there. Woop woop.Famous for their impossibly divine-tasting vegetarian sausage rolls, I have spent countless lunch-hours recharging here in the middle of a frenetic work day.
This is another one of those great hidden gems down Dominion Road, which is handy for our staff since our office is located on Dominion Road. Even if you're not vegetarian, I'm almost willing to bet that you'd enjoy the food here. They have a great "bowl" menu - a range of different meals served with your choice of brown rice or kumara, and they're definitely hearty, filling and warming meals - great for a mid-winter concentration-boosting lunch before heading back to the office! As well as these, there is a rotating range of items in the cabinet - and again, even if you're not vegetarian, you will definitely find something you like here. The prices are good and they even have a loyalty card for the bowl dishes, which is great if you're a regular.
I really enjoy going to Bluebird Cafe. It's a relaxing environment and the staff are particularly friendly and welcoming. The food is filling, fresh and all vegetarian. My favourite is the "bali high" sauce on baked kumara with crumble for dessert. Herbal teas or freshly made juice can wash it down. The only disappointment is that the prices are continually going up (like everything I guess) and are heading towards restaurant prices, despite being vegetarian and in a casual cafe setting.
