Five-star luxury; this elegant and refurbished Victorian-Edwardian hotel was once home to the County Council and is one of the few buildings to survive the 1931 Hawke’s Bay Earthquake. With its award-winning Wine Street restaurant and Churchill’s Champagne Bar, it’s picture-perfect at any time, but I just love it to soak up the fantasy and decadent atmosphere after an Art Deco celebration.

Came for the Art Deco weekend and may have splashed out just a little more than usual. So worth it though. The rooms are amazing and the service impeccable. Ate in the restaurant a couple of times and was super impressed. The breakfast buffet was massive and I had to waddle out of the dining room afterwards. I know the girlfriend wants to come back with her mates to try the high tea here as well.
