I can only think that it must be the somewhat un-memorable name that holds this place back from getting ALL THE LOVE on Localist. Seriously, this place encapsulates everything we love about small business in New Zealand - lovely coffee, perfect deli counter and the pies are unbelievably good. I have tried the butter chicken, steak and cheese, leek and chicken and mince and cheese and I think my favourite would have to be the steak and cheese. Proper ingredients, great size and lovely service. Go there now.

    I called in here yesterday for a quick sandwich as i was passing i have been forwards and backwards once a week past this deli for the past 6 weeks i now will stop every week the food and service was Fab, and my mouth is watering already for next week. Many Thanks i am so pleased i have found you good real food at great prices!!!!

      Adrienne and the team at the Essential Deli are fantastic.  The salads are yummy and there is an excellent variety of them - BUT, you must, must, must try their butter chicken pies!!!  Fantastico!
