The Fridge Cafe in Kingsland is bustling every day of the week and it's not hard to see why.

Alongside the yummy brunch menu, there's also a veritable cornucopia of delicious cabinet options - vibrant and fresh salads, wraps, paninis, sandwiches and their legendary gourmet pies that are definitely worth all the hype. Arrive early in the weekends if you don't want to miss out!

If you still have room after that, there's still a massive range of their homemade sweet treats to choose from. Try the rocky road or carrot cake, they're everyone's favourites.

I've only been to the Fridge for morning work meanings. I'd feel bad sitting through a meeting with a pie but with the reviews the pies are getting here I'm wondering whether I should sacrifice my professional reputation and bust out a pie breakfast. I can vouch for the hot chocolates which are the size of a small spa bath and despite the small front area there is plenty of room out the back - perfect for morning breakfast meetings! Parking can be a bit of a pain but the Fridge is worth walking for.

Superb :)

The Fridge is about 5 mins away from my work, and about once a week we'l go in there for a treat. And it really is a treat. If you haven't heard already they have the BEST pies in Auckland. Home made with love; they're chockerfilled with ingredients and just delicious. They'll melt in your mouth and any other pie that you eat that isn’t from the Fridge just won’t cut it. If you can tear yourself away from not eating a pie (and believe me I’ve struggled), try their wraps. Wow, they are HUGE! My favourite is the lamb wrap and it’s like huge chunks of perfectly cooked lamb. I almost fainted the first time I ate it, it was so good. LOVE this place. They also have an amazing range of salads and desserts and I think they also have food from the kitchen but their cabinet food is so good that I’ve never actually ordered anything from the kitchen.

Super :)

It is easy to dismiss the Fridge as from the outside it does appear to be just a deli. Hiding inside however is a decent dining room with plenty of tables to sit down. This doesn't mean getting a table is easy as it's always packed but it will be worth the wait. The Fridge is legendary for its pies - many argue that they are the best in Auckland. The rest of the cabinet food is pretty stunning too and there is a huge variety. It is perfect if you are needing to pick up something for lunch. The menu items are equally as impressive - in particular the brunch items - and the portions are generously sized. Yum.

The Fridge is a Kingsland institution and never disappoints...unless you're a vegetarian eyeing up their incredible steak pies.

I love the Fridge, and go there lots.  Most of you probably already know all about the pies - which in my humble (but very informed) opinion are the very best anywhere in Auckland.   But there's lots more to the Fridge than pies - they have a huge range of counter food.  My personal fave is the spectacular and hearty eggs benedict on potato cakes - which is not for the faint hearted or anorexic.  Coffee and freshly squeezed juices are top notch as well.  They must be doing well - it's always busy, and the seating area has doubled in the past couple of years, expanding from cosy and squeezy into having lots more room for their growing customer base.

My weekly treat, is to head to The Fridge, and sample some of their gorgeous salads, or for a real treat the best pies in town.

My favourite Auckland cafe. The gourmet homemade pies are to die for! Always popular.

New visitors may squeeze into the entrance and wonder where on earth they'll sit, but walk a bit to the side or downstairs and there are two seating areas with plenty of space. Not that they don't fill up fast in the weekends! I love the historic neighbourhood photos and airiness of the upstairs room, and they always have plenty of newspapers around to leaf through while waiting for your food. The pies are what this place is probably most famous for, and you have to try one at least once. Cooked breakfasts are also delicious, though the portions are huge, particularly the very filling hash cakes - I'd suggest splitting it between two people if you're not feeling ambitious. Finally, it always looks like there's a great range of baked sweets in the cabinet, but I'm almost always too full from the savouries to give them a shot! A great mainstay of Kingsland, worth a visit.

This place is the sister business to the Chiller in Parnell and while it was first not quite what they have going on down there. However the wraps are really my favourite although hubby much prefers the pies (which you can also buy frozen to take away). Robots in the window display v cute too and a great Kingsland standard. There's an outside seating area too so extra points for that!
