Tin soldier is a new casual eatery and bar that brings the art of sharing to Ponsonby Road.

Tin Soldier has been designed to offer a fresh approach to modern dining - one that eschews shadowy intimacy for a far more sociable and homely environment.

The sharing menu offers contemporary savoury and sweet favourites which are given a very modern twist in both ingredients and presentation. And for those who don’t like to share, there are a variety of larger plates you can at least try to keep all to yourself!

Great local watering hole with exceptional Food and staff

Half the reason I wanted to try Tin Soldier on Ponsonby Rd was because I'd clocked the 'Flavours of Milo' dessert on their menu walking past one day. As I sat there at the bar, eating it alone after my friends had left, I thought to myself 'this was a good decision.' Milk sorbet with coconut snow, malt, gingernuts and churros: TASTES LIKE ALL THE FLAVOURS OF MILO.

If you’re in a big group then sharing plates are awesome. I love Tin Soldier’s high quality food with a european flavour, and their groovy presentation. Think mini sliders and gourmet mac and cheese, yum!

The setting is very nice, I loved the open white kitchen, the light interior design and all the decorations. We ordered a few small plates, which was mostly excellent and well presented. I loved how they gave an explanation of each dish which was brought to the table - and the fact that you get complementary rolls and some olive oil. However, the roasted bread in one dish was absolutely burnt and just tasted like charcoal. Unfortunately, they didn't mind and just covered it with the toppings so you didn't have the chance to scrape it off.

Ever since I went to Tin Soldier, I have been itching to get back there. I went with about 5 others and we just had the best experience. They have a great selection of food and stunning service. The waitress guided us through the evening, advising us on how much we should order and what everyone goes nuts about. I would really recommend the Soy Glazed Pig’s Cheek that came with sweet carrot, celeriac, bok choy, puffed skin & shiitake and also Crispy Wings with five spice buttermilk fried chicken wings with roasted chilli jam. I thought for the quality of the food it was all incredibly affordable.

We ate here on their opening night and as their first paying customers we were very impressed with both the food and the service. Since then I hear things have only got better and from some of the reviews it it has had elsewhere from known foodies and critics, Tin Soldier is going from strength to strength. I am looking forward to going back later this week to try some more of their delicious food. I'll let you know how it goes.....

Seems like this place has had nothing but 5star reviews. Sounds awesome...

Came here on the opening night a couple of weeks ago and was really pleased I did. Must eats are the crab and prawns to start, pumpkin in the mains (yes pumpkin!) and all of the desserts, if you have room. Actually. Go as a group and share each item, nothing we ate disappointed. The food is well priced for the quality you get, the service team are great and knowledgeable of the food and there are several tap beers and tap wine. I will definitely be going back… Booked in for the 5th July!

Tin Soldier is a brand new restaurant on Ponsonby Road with a chef that makes the worst food (even cauliflower) taste absolutely delicious. A little pricey, but the food is well worth the money, and the service just tops it off with a cute Englishman ;)
