Two for one tuesdayzzzz

Back when I was a malnourished and poverty stricken student living in a fridge/flat in north Dunedin, Velvet burger was my weekly reprieve. One moment of culinary decadence which sustained me through the week of two minute noodles and dollar-a-can-beer as sustenance. Now that I am gainfully employed and have a bit of cash to burn I'm so stoked to see this Kiwi legend move to Auckland in its convenient Fort Street Location. The burgers here are huge and full of flavour - including some interesting options like "the stag" which has a big ol' venison patty and heaps of juicy and delicious portobello mushrooms. If you like a cold brew (like me) They've got local craft beer on tap and a decent range in the fridge including cans of dirty Double Brown for around 4 bucks. This is an unbeatable spot for a classic tasty burger and a delicious cold beer in the CBD.

Great quality burger

Had the Stag burger for lunch, added a juice a 1/2 scoop of fatties for $20 total. Delicious burger, I mean everything in the burger was awesome. The bread was soft yet well toasted, easy to bite into. The venison patty was AAAAAmazing, and they had beetroot which always gets a tick from me! The only gripe was that I had a wee bit of trouble eating like a lady ;) if you've got smallish hands like me, be prepared to constantly rotate that beast - to save some of that yummy yummy sauce (and so that you always get a good bite of everything). Can't wait to go again!

(Eighth place) A Dunedin institution that’s inevitably made it’s way north due to popular demand, many an Auckland confidant have now nestled against the Velvet Burger bosom. It’s all about Kiwiana here, with a loud and proud attitude towards sourcing local ingredients and beer to wash them down with (they even have Double Brown). But the real star comes in the form of ‘The Stag’ burger, a beautiful amalgamation of venison, portobello mushroom, blue cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, red onion, aioli and plum chutney. Those Otago locals know a good burger, and I’m glad they were willing to share them with us.

Hard to beat burgers at a reasonable price, it’s no surprise that Velvet Burger has been on my favourites list for years. With great service, fresh and delicious burgers (my all-time favourite is the lamb-based Homegrown) and late closing times, Velvet Burger is an excellent way to start or finish a night out in downtown Auckland. Bonus points for the fact they also sell beer and wine, unlike many other burger places.

Velvet Burger does the best burgers in the central city. Love the Babe burger and the unfailingly friendly service.

The best burger in town!

Great burgers and chips for less than $15. And without all the grease. Yummo.
