An epic river and regional park just slightly north of Christchurch, I love spending long summer Sunday evenings here fishing and cooking dinner on a BBQ. No better way to explore this area than spending loads of time there!

The Waimakariri River Regional Park is a great place for a dip. I love this river for swimming and jet boating - there are great rapids and whirlpools too! To find the best swimming spot, simply drive to South Eyre Road, turn Left onto Diverson Road, when you get to first T junction go right and head up the gravel road.

The Waimakariri River is a good fishing spot. The large, braided and snow fed river flows from the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean. Located only a few minutes from Christchurch, this river is a top salmon and trout fishing spot.

A beautiful regional park in the heart of North Canterbury, there's not a lot you can't do here in terms of the great outdoors. Explore nature, walk with your dog and try your hand at fishing or hunting. The options are endless!

Between the bridges of SH1 and the Old Waimak Bridge is an ideal patch of river where dogs of all sizes can run about and swim to their heart’s content. Part of this section (when not in a raging flood) is a shallow, calm pond, and beyond the ‘bar’ the river flows steadily for larger, competent dogs. 4x4’s are ideal, but (non-lowered) cars have no issues either.
