Located between Te Aroha and Matamata, Wairere Falls is the highest waterfall in the North Island plunging 153 metres in two steps over the Kaimai Ranges. A sacred landmark to the local Ngāti Awa along with providing a source of freshwater, the site became a scenic reserve in 1971.

Popular with tourists, the falls can be viewed from the road or by a walking track from the car park on Goodwin Road. Taking you past native forest, cascading streams, moss covered streams and picturesque bridges, 45 minutes will get you to a stunning lookout point or 90 minutes to the summit.

I don't think this needs explaining why I love it...

The BEST way to disconnect from reality and get back in touch with nature xo

The tallest waterfall in the North Island, is well worth the trek, not too far out of Matamata, it would take you just over an hour if you hustle. Really pretty hike.
