While I was first introduced to Trawling Sea Market for its vege rolls and chips, it's hard not to notice the vast array of fish and seafood basking on ice behind the counter. From really fresh (and bright!) salmon fillets to flounder, lobster to prawns, they seem to have it all. Take your cuts home raw or get them battered in the store. Prices are reasonable and location is super central, right near the top of Cuba St.
Straight from the boat to the shop! All types of seafood, you simply can not get any fresher than this, and they will cook it for you as well. I brought a half of a crayfish with salad and a shrimp cocktail, which was so fresh it was simply divine. The smell of fish and chips was amazing, I stayed in the shop a while. I hid away as I ate my feast as I didn't want to share it. I was delighted by the price, crayfish for a reasonable price is hard to find. I will be frequenting this shop often.
While there aren't many fresh seafood places in central Wellington city, Trawling Sea Market can be found conveniently located at the top of Cuba St. I bought myself a couple of trevally fillets and crumbed and fried them at home. They were fresh and delicious. If you want takeaways, I'd advise calling ahead - Trawling is a popular store.
