Western Springs Park is a large wildlife sanctuary located 8 minutes drive from the CBD. Surrounding a lake fed by natural springs, facilities include walking tracks, drinking fountains, picnic tables, BBQs and a kids playground.

Situated beside major attractions including Auckland Zoo and MOTAT, the stadium has hosted big name international acts such as the Foo Fighters and Eminem.

The lake is a refuge for the orea eel, with many native trees and bird species to be found in the park including the Pukeko.

Check out the annual Pasifika Festival, one of numerous events held onsite.

This beautiful spot is always a hit even in winter. Our 8yo loves finding all the hidden tracks and can spend hours watching the birds and hunting for rabbits.

    The kids adore this - even in the cold!

      This is a great place to take the kids in the school holidays, take some bread to feed the birds, scooters to ride around the track and money for a coffee from the cafe while you watch the kids play on the playground. It's a great way to spend a day. Great for a picnic too.

        I enjoyed the run around Western Springs Park - just watch out for any aggressive ducks :)

          Nice grass to walk on.

            Free. Kids run around after a day next door (zoo) and even Motat at the other end. Picnics in the sun and trees around animals, right in the heart of Auckland

              I'm so lucky to live so close this absolute stunner! It's so very easy on the eyes, and cleansing for the soul. The perfect place to take a breather, and leave behind the stresses of life in the concrete jungle. Go for a walk/run, have a picnic, or simply laze around and enjoy the company of the abundant wildlife. Makes for one epic day out.
