There’s something pretty special about picking seasonal fruit in the height of summer. Forget the supermarket and grab the kids for a day out picking fruit straight from nature. We’re found the five best spots in the upper North where you can have a berry good day.

We love coming here for a special treat on the way home. During strawberry season you can spend some happy hours picking your own or just buy a bunch. You can have strawberry ice-cream or smoothies or (my favourite) massive strawberries dipped in chocolate. So nice in summer!

A great place to pick your own strawberries! They have places in Kumeu, Coatesville, and Whenuapai. I’ve tried Coatesville but haven’t been to the others…. yet. It's a super spot to take the young ones when you have a weekend day on your hands.

OMG this place was an amazing find these holidays. The setup is awesome and SUPER EFFICIENT. When we called in with friends and children, the place was humming with loads of visitors all lining up to get the biggest strawberry icecreams I've ever seen in my life. The kids LOVED it.

The strawberries here are so juicy and fresh and you can get tons more than the price you would pay at the supermarket. I love getting a strawberry icecream when I'm finished!

If you love a good apple, this place is a must stop. The apples here have so much flavour, and there's no better one to eat one than freshly picked off the tree. My favourite thing to make with these fresh little tasties is to juice them - you'll never look at supermarket apples the same way!
