Brake hoses

New brake hose

Brake hoses, brake lines

Brake hoses create a flexible connection between the vehicle structure and the axles. Additional steering movements must be endured on the steered front wheels. The external hose, also called cover, must be resistant against mineral oil, weather, road salt and impact of stones. Previously, chloroprene-rubber (CR) was used as a material, nowadays ethylene-propylene-diene-copolymer (EPDC) is used. A multi-layered rayon web is used as a fabric to guarantee the necessary compression strength. Brake hoses are designed for operating pressures up to100 bar, higher pressures can also be endured for short periods. The burst pressure (destruction pressure) is many times higher than that. The internal hose must be resistant to brake fluid. Previously, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) was used as a material. Nowa-days EPDC is used because this material is less permeable to water (most of the absorption of water by the brake fluid takes place via the brake hoses and may not be twisted between the connections.
