I am a regular Bian customer and love the variety of fresh sushi available on offer. My personal favourite is the salmon and avocado one that is served in an egg casing - yum! Perfect summer option would be to pick up some sushi then sit in the sun at Basque park (only downside to Bian is the poor seating options).
The guys at Bian get a lot of love from their regulars, and there are a lot of them. The lunchtime queue is frequently out the door. But don’t let that put you off, because they’re really efficient about satisfying your sushi craving. If you’re anywhere near Newton give them a shot, you won’t regret it.
This is an informal little place in Upper Symonds St - it's always jam packed at lunch time, but a little quieter at dinner. Their sushi is great, but even better is their menu - their meals are really affordable, and so tasty! They have a special sauce, which I've never found anywhere else - almost like a tartare, but not quite, with chopped fresh onion and herbs, and it is amazing!! It's worth visiting just for the sauce. I would recommend the chicken katsu curry on a cold day, or ten don in the summer - piled high with sauce.
A big selection of delicious sushi pieces, staff are friendly, prices are reasonable. Always busy at lunch so there is a bit of a wait but the line moves reasonably fast, worth the wait. Indoor/outdoor seating so perfect all year round if you eat there. Their hot meal menu is fantastic and reasonably priced for the small sized meals. Simple done very very well. Keen to order a platter for a special occasion, always see multiple platters being picked up during lunch time.
We rocked up to Bian Sushi one lunch time, having heard many good things about this Sushi shop for years. They're probably one of the first sushi places to bring in a popular 'pick-your-own' model of sushi. Basically you have a whole range of sushi ranging from $1.50 to $3 or so and you can fill your plate/takeaway box with whatever you fancy. It can be a fun albeit difficult process to make sure your eyes are not bigger than your stomach.
