I like a sushi place that offers more than California roll for vegetarians. It's usually a hard choice between here and the other one further up the road but I think I've settled on this one as my favourite. As long as there's seaweed I'm happy.

Bian are a genuine Newton institution, and are at the top of their game.  There are now so many places in Auckland to pick up sushi, and some of them really just aren't that good.  In contrast, Bian has great, fresh, interesting sushi, and in a street where there are many other choices of food (including other sushi) there's frequently a queue out their door as people throng to pick up their lunch.  Follow the crowds! You can sit in as well (i there's a seat, come early), and they'll do hot stuff too.  Not to mention warm sake of an evening.

This place has sushi varieties beyond Auckland's usual, check it out.

I highly recommend Bian to vegetarians. If you don't eat chicken or fish/seafood then your options can be a bit limiting at most sushi joints, usually tamago, inari and boring old cucumber. At Bian there are some great options like pea shoots and pumpkin tempura. Bian also offers free Japanese tea and an awesome 'help yourself' condiment platter with a very special mayo. As you choose pieces individually they do add up to being a lot more expensive than at the places that offer packs but I like to go here when I feel like something different.

Best sushi!

It serves great sushi and it has friendly and fast service. The variety of the sushi is great and it's my kids' favourite sushi place

I love the food here - they have some unusual options on the menu, and a great selection of vegetarian treats.

To eating at this great venue is to avoid the lunchtime queues, which can often reach the shop next door. If you can handle the questioning looks, slide up to the front and order from the extensive and very reasonably priced menu (small spicy chicken and rice at $7 is wonderful) unfortunately sushi lovers will have to wait though.

I love great sushi and this is really really great sushi. The range, freshness and speed of service are all great reasons to try this place out.
