Blue River Orchard is a blueberry orchard run by Buffy McNicholas and Justin Topzand. Justin is an experienced cameraman whose portfolio of work includes The Piano and Lord of the Rings.

Selling blueberries, ice cream, smoothies, takeout coffee and cakes from November through to March, their retro caravan also appears at the Kerikeri Farmers Market on Sundays along with at numerous local events and festivals.

I love these ice creams more than anything. They’re so tasty, purple and good for you! The ice creams are a vivid lilac colour and the sorbets are a rich violet. Normally I’m an ice cream fan but in this case the sorbet wins my vote.

    Anytime I spot their caravan I make a beeline for it. Blue River Orchard do THE BEST blueberry icecreams, sorbets and smoothies. Everything is bright purple with tasty berries. It’s delicious, reasonably priced and healthy too. Just think of all those anti-oxidants!
