If you've ever been frustrated by the lack of parking at Richmond Road Cafe, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the ample spaces outside Bread & Butter Bakery & Cafe, just around the corner from the new Mitre 10 Mega. As soon as you push open the rolling pin handled front door, you know you're in for a treat. Breads, pastries and tarts are enticingly displayed along the front counter, and there are vintage touches everywhere, from the old school chairs surrounding the large communal tables, to the daisies in the glass milk bottles. The menu is interesting but not daunting, with both old favourites and interesting dishes. I tried the duck risotto, which the kitchen happily made with spinach instead of rocket for me, and it was delicious. Service was quick and friendly, and the lemon tart we had at the end was fantastic. A great spot to stop if you're shopping in the area.
