Little Bread & Butter is my favourite place to stop and pick up a fresh pastry on my walk to work. Ponsonby Central is a playground for the modern foodie but sometimes classic is best and you can never go wrong with an early morning indulgence. Not only do they hit the right note with their freshly baked goods but the modern industrial look is effortlessly trendy.
I had an early meeting in Ponsonby and didn’t have time to eat breakfast before I left the house. On the way I stopped into Little Bread and Butter Bakery and grabbed an almond croissant and a large coffee. The flaky pastry was fresh out of the oven still warm and the coffee was piping hot. The sweet almond filling was delicious and the pastry was second to none. A great start to the day.
Little Bread and Butter in Ponsonby are dishing out the finest organic breads in the neighbourhood. They use all natural unbleached flours, nuts and seeds and do a wide range of loaves including more-ish Walnut Loaf, Pumpkin Rye, wheat free Swiss Loaf and some unique breads such as a Fitness Bread containing wholemeal flour, carrots and seeds and a gluten free buckwheat loaf which is good news to the coeliacs and gluten intolerant bread lovers out there. Traditional white bread lovers are well catered for with the crunchy Tuscan Country, Parisian and Batard loaves. For the sweet tooth there are buttery pastries, cinnamon rolls and madeleines and Five Elements coffee to wash it down.
Dangerously close to my home and my office is Little Bread & Butter Bakery, where a lot of hard earned cash gets spent on fresh, fragrant and just plain delicious bread. They use certified organic ingredients and unbleached flours, and leave out additives, stabilisers and other nasties that you really don’t want on your kitchen table. Parking can be a bit dicey on a sunny day so if you don’t mind airflow detour, they have opened another branch behind Farro Fresh a little further down Richmond Road - turn left at the Mitre 10 and you’re there!
