A lovely inner city park, Cafler Park commemorates Edward Eugene Cafler, born in France 1797, served in the Battle of Waterloo and after many adventures around the world, settled in Whangarei in 1855. He was an enterprising businessman who built a majestic home near what is now the Town Basin and later a cottage in the vicinity of this park.

On its Water St. boundary the park begins with the rose gardens. Located right in the inner city of Whangarei, this is a lovely spot to stop and smell the roses.

This park is heaven for the senses. With gorgeous colourful, fragrant flowers and manicured gardens I could spend all day wondering around or reading my book under a tree. You definitely need to pay a visit when the roses are blooming because they smell divine!

Take a turn around Cafler Park and breathe in the perfume of the rose gardens. The park also contains Botanica Whangarei, a unique conservatory and fernery which has year-round displays of colourful subtropical flowers and houses containing cool, green ferns and filmy ferns.
