Another discovery while traveling South of Christchurch - not necessarily the typical Dine Out place - but definitely worth a visit for the lovely homemade food, the desserts on display, and lots of goodies to take away, too.We had two salads, followed by the special of the day - seafood chowder in a bread bowl. All dishes delicious and fresh - and we did not mind the somewhat noisy environment - it was happy noise, a mix of tourist and locals. We finished our visit with strong hot coffees - even asked how I wanted my long black - and while enjoying the coffees we also watched the one helper, a young boy, who was working like a real pro, clearing and cleaning tables, having a friendly word for everybody - and when we left, thanking us for coming to the 100% Homemade Cafe. All in all a very positive and heartwarming experience to start the New Year!

Came here with mum the other day for an early Sunday brekky. Service was relatively fast considering there were two over tables to be served as well. I had the coconut porridge with camel sauce and pear. Divine

Oops didn't finish! Mum had the eggs on toast with spinach. Another delicious meal. I will certainly be returning.

Staff are so friendly! Yum yum yum. Porridge was excellent, so is the mince on toast.

Guilty as charged: I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that breakfast (or brunch, all the better for the use of a portmanteau and a sleep-in) is my favourite meal of the day. There's this whole beginning-of-something-awesome feel to it if it's done right and on my eggs benedict tour of Auckland I have definitely found some niches where the breakfast of champions is championed well. Cereal Killa 'executes' this staple mealtime so radnificently that I didn't even make it to the Eggs Benedict option before being completely and utterly stunned into submission. My suggestion? Die happy. Go tomorrow.

Finally went to Cereal Killa yesterday after being told to go for months.  Great atmosphere and a fantastic range of breakfast type foods - I stuck with poached eggs on toast - but then 'jooshed' it up a bit by adding some ham and a rosti.  Reasonably priced and very yummy!  Staff were very friendly, will definitely be back!

Cereal Killa is new to Mount Eden but has quickly become a fast favourite. Everything on the menu is delicious with incredibly reasonable prices. The coffee is delicious and the staff are always extremely friendly. I highly recommend the mushroom risotto!

Cereal Killa has probably only been open for six weeks but it has already become a favourite in my heart!! The strong coffee, expertly made, is so good! And the interesting variations on the menu keep me coming back time and again. The truffle mushrooms risotto is to die for! And the prices are also super reasonable compared to most other cafes! The owner and head waiter Sam sits down at your table to take your order - not overbearing, the perfect side of attentive!

As soon as I heard there was a new cafe on Dominion Rd called 'Cereal Killa', I knew I had to try it. We visited during opening weekend, and it was so new it still smelled of paint and the staff were so new it was actually our waitress' first day. First up the eightthirty coffee was really top notch, and I enjoyed one of the best mochas I've had in Auckland here. The menu is a bit of a mixed bag though, with both pretty standard and more unique offerings. I almost regretted coming too early as the lunch menu items definitely looked more appealing. I ended up ordering a salmon eggs benedict, and to be honest it was pretty standard for that kind of dish - not terrible, not outstanding. Overall, I'd definitely be keen to come back for a coffee, and maybe give some of the lunch menu items a shot. Not many cafes on this strip though so definitely worth a try!

Dominion Rd cannot be said to be a cafe destination so Cereal Killa would have been a welcome addition regardless of what it was like. BUT it just so happens that this place is going to put Dominion Rd cafes on the map! The service is great - the owner (or main waiter) sits down next to you to take your order with great menu recommendations. The coffee is fantastic and strong. Can highly recommend the mushroom and truffle risotto and the pancakes. Three visits in as many weeks and I have left happy every time. Things are super reasonably priced as well!

Drove past this place today, noticed it because of the eight thirty sign, wouldn't have even spotted this without it, made a mental note to take the missus. She likes a minimal cafe joint.

Sunday breakfast, and where to go? After perusing a few reviews here on Dineout, I decided to head to Dominion Rd to check out this newish cafe for breakfast. Walking in, we were greeted immediately by the friendly guy with the elastic-bottomed jeans :) I think he might be the boss, he was very proactive and friendly. He showed us to our table, quickly got us some water and menus and wiped down the table. The menu is a bit of paper presented on some cardboard. Cute. I couldn't decide between the porridge (I'd read on a review here that it was good) or the omelette. I asked the waiter woman and she hadn't tried the porridge but recommended the omelette as she had tried it and said it was yummy. So I ordered the omelette. Hubby inquired about the "english half" breakfast, which turned out to be a poached egg with hollandaise and something else which I forget, on top of some crushed potato. Sounded good enough, so he ordered the english half. We didn't try the coffee as we had two cups each already at home. I noticed some delicious-looking juices which were clearly freshly juiced (and which I MUST try next time) being devoured by appreciative customers. A couple of little kids had gorgeous little blue espresso cups with "fluffies" in them, which appeared to be going down a treat. The place itself was fairly sparse on first appearances, with its white-washed walls and white pine-look tables. Hubby was lamenting what he perceives as a lost opportunity to play on the theme of serial killers, musing about the possibilities of having a huge mural with lots of historical serial killers sitting around a huge table (like the Last Supper), eating cereal. He didn't care for the pinup theme, but I rather liked it. Anyway, I digress. We had a shaker of sea salt and some delicious smelling BBQ sauce presented to us, together with an empty can holding the napkins and cutlery. A nice touch, I thought. Thank you for not wrapping the darn cutlery in a napkin and sticking it down with water. I hate that. When the food game out it was nicely presented on large white plates, my omelette was pesto and parmesan, and was liberally sprinkled with the parmesan cheese and micro herbs. Very nice. A couple of perfectly toasted bits of ciabatta (I think) on the side together with some chutney. Hubby's english half looked quite small (he's a big lad), but beautifully arrranged on the plate. He too had the chutney and a piece of bread on the side. Next time hubby thinks he might add another side as he found the one egg wasn't quite enough for his big appetite. For me, the serving size was perfect. Although both meals were beautifully cooked, the star of the show was actually the chutney. It was delicious. I meant to ask if they sold it separately as I really wanted to take some home, but forgot! Oh well, next time. I am looking forward to returning to try more of their menu. So nice to find a funky little place that isn't soaked in pretension, and serves good honest food in a clean and friendly environment. Well done to the owners and staff. The only two negatives were that when I called beforehand, someone answered the phone without saying the name of the place. When I asked if they were "Cereal Killa", the Asian woman's accent on the other end didn't seem to know what I was saying, I repeated it and said the number I had called, and asked if it was the cafe, and then another Asian accent (male) asked me who I wanted to speak to. I had no idea if I had the cafe or not as it had still not been clarified, so said "nevermind" in the end, and hung up the phone. I checked the phone display afterwards and the number I called was definitely the number on the cafe info. Perhaps this is something to be addressed, at the least it's good business to answer the phone with the name of the cafe and have someone answering the phone with good communication skills. The only other (extremely minor) negative was that the heat was up quite high. I was a little overheated by the time we left. I will most definitely be back, thanks for a great breakfast. :
