C G R stands for Coffee, Gin and Rum so it is pretty clear what they specialise in. Like a group of mad, but precise, scientists they make their own rum and gin infusions using a variety of herbs and spices. Depending on the seasons, ingredients and time involved, these infusions are constantly changing.

Their classy bar with beautiful dark wood, chandeliers and bottles of infusions lining the shelves, matches their classy staff.

C G R Merchants & Co is the perfect place for a quiet drink after work or before a night out.

Of the many classy bars tucked away upstairs on Courtenay Place, CGR Merchants is one of my favourites. It's named after the three beverages it specialises in: Coffee, Gin and Rum, and god knows it does them well. The infused gin and rum – salted caramel! lavender! – make every round of drinks a journey of discovery. Good riddance to Hooch Bar, the space's former occupant, I say.

CGR stands for Coffee, Gin and Rum - so you’re left in no doubt as to what this hidden gem is in the business of. But don’t think that limits your choices. Its huge range of intriguing special infusions - cinnamon gin, egg coffee, salted caramel rum - mean there’s bound to be a tipple to suit your fancy. A great place to take out-of-towners, too.

Incredible decor, amazing service and remarkable gin and rum creations are the elements that serve as backbone to CGR. This upstairs spot is so impressive on so many levels. Go experience it for yourself!

If you ever find yourself stranded at the bottom end of Courtenay Place with a sudden need for a quick caffeine fix, look for a little staircase next to the Bank of New Zealand. Hidden away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city, it's the perfect place to come catch a break during or after work. However as the name suggests, coffee isn't the only thing they do well; keep your eyes on the ever-changing back bar, full of delicious gin and rum infusions.
