I’ve been op-shopping many times in Wellington. It is never the most comfortable of endeavours, for me, but I commonly find myself, in these times, at the army surplus store. This time, I was hunting for a winter jacket. An unexpected advantage I discovered, for a small person like myself, was the range of sizes available. Apparently soldiers come in many sizes too. I found an incredible French paratrooper jacket, and a thick, cropped 1954 New Zealand army jacket that fit me perfectly. The other strange surplus items which littered the store added novelty to the experience, and I had just as much fun looking around, safe from the gaze of hipsters.
