Craven A make the best hot chocolates in town and I’m telling you this as a hot chocolate connoisseur and as someone who spent the last of my measly student income on buying one every day of the week. Yep they are that good. I don’t know how they do it, I have spent hours trying to work out what their secret weapon is. Ask me if they use powder or syrup and I would have no idea, because when it’s tastes this good you don’t question the barista.

I really like Craven A cafe. The staff are always friendly and efficient, they have great food whether you're after a meal like this cream of pumpkin soup, or just wanting to grab a sandwich - and really good coffee too. Good, snug spot to catch up on uni readings that isn't right on campus but still close enough to run to class!

Family business with the best potato and leak soup in town. They know all the students by name!

This lil cafe is just across the road from my uni, the place is so alive at 7 in the morning. I always enjoy my mocha on the way to class.

Devine lemon cake, delicious coffee, get my coffee here every morning before uni, great student cafe close to campus. Reasonable prices

Don't bother going anywhere else, these guys do the best coffee near Auckland Uni. They are consistantly good and are very friendly. Try the date scone, it is good!

There's always a copy of the latest newspapers just waiting for you to read, the coffee's consistently well made, good indoor tables for newspapering, good row of outdoor tables on the footpath for all your smoking-while-drinking-coffee needs, all your friends from art school are there, and the sausage roll with pickle is rather nice.

A regular of the uni haunts Craven delivers a great strong coffee every time. Perfect for an afternoon pick me up in the sun.

This is where everyone at work dashes out to for a quick caffeine fix, a yummy lunch, or casual meetings. Usually cabinet food in cafes is pretty average, but here, they really know their stuff. Everything is really well considered and yum. They have a beautiful savoury scone, which is kind of more like a frittata for $3.50, which is great for days when the budget is tight. My other personal fav is the roast pork and apple focaccia. ($6.50)But I have tried not to be boring and pick those two things every time, and everything has been tasty and good value. They are great at knowing the names of their regulars, and are seriously FAST at whipping out their excellent Allpress coffees. Frequented by students and the like, it makes for good people watching too.
