Wicked atmosphere. Lively and buzzing but relaxed and comfortable. Nice bar food with nice outdoor seating areas! Might have to have another beer before I leave!

Had a nibble on mussels, took in the sun and a couple of beers. Not the cheapest but not too crowded or noisy, and a lovely view. Prices may reflect the rent! Friendly staff, thought the mussels were above average, would definitely return on next sojourn to Mission Bay if I get thirsty

Came here after looking for an outdoor spot with a view in Mission Bay a few weeks ago.  It seemed to be the only place with an outdoor seating area so we walked in and noticed immediately its a novel place with the central theme being beer and mussels...    Everywhere we looked were people eating superb looking dishes of mussels..and  the blackboard's yelled out the specials.  Good prices for mussels served every way you can think of. I don't like mussels ( I know I'm crazy) but we decided rather than wander round wasting an hour we would grab a seat and  were lucky to get one outside on the deck with a fab view over Mission  Bay and its peoples. We ordered some wine and I had the calamari which was superb. Excellent meal in a top spot on a sunny day.  Good service, different environment.  All fun! Must come back & try the Bavarian stew or schnitzel one day.. menu looks great.  Prices not bad at all either.

Belgian Beer Cafes are a bit of an institution around Auckland, and the Mission Bay branch is no exception. What better way to spend a lovely afternoon or evening than a stroll along the beach, some drinks and mussels at De Fontein, and then join the hordes queuing up for Movenpick downstairs? For those who've grown tired of walking into bars and seeing identical beers on offer, the Belgian Beer Cafes are a breath of fresh air. If you want to play it safe there's Stella on tap, but you could also branch out and try the Hoegaarden White, Leffe Brune or even Belle-Vue-Kriek cherry beer. And that's not even getting into the over 100 bottles available on the 'Magna Carta Fermenta'... For those looking for a more bar-style experience, the downstairs area provides plenty of room, with leaners and stools arrayed around. Sit down meals are more for upstairs, where the outdoor tables give a great view across to the beach during the day. Even on a wet and cold Tuesday evening the upstairs area was abuzz with diners, in contrast to the downstairs area which was a little quieter and lacking in ambience - though I'm sure this wouldn't be the case on a nicer Friday or Saturday evening. Whether you're just after a beer, a light snack or a satisfying dinner, De Fontein is a solid and consistent performer in the Mission Bay strip which won't disappoint.

Must try :)

Came here on the weekend and managed to get a seat on the deck - soo nice to look out over mission bay. Only ordered lattes and a bowl of fries (which weren't the best) but they still treated us really well. Good service. Really good coffees.

Belgian Trappist ale cant be beat, and this is the best place to get it.

Must try :)

Good spot, with great views. Best seats are on the balcony on a warm day/evening, but you’ll want to get there early to get one - there’s also a wait list, you can call ahead.
