Stopped by De Fontein for a drink with friends, late one week night, after dinner in the area. They have an excellent atmosphere, love the upstairs area. We sat outside on the balcony which was lovely. Service was so good and staff really friendly. They have a great selection of beers and cocktails as well. Awesome end to a good night out.

Must see :)

MMMMMMMMMM had the most delicious garlic and white wine mussels here wow! Not to mention the impeccable service and professionalism of the team there too. We were greeted on arrive and we requested to sit outside. We had to wait a little while before we could move outside but we were seated and had our order taken quickly which was nice and the staff were incredibly friendly and they were all smiling too. I really can not wait to go back again. It was awesome and well priced too.

Even if you’re not a beer snob, most beer drinkers find it hard to go past a good Belgian beer. They just do it better than everyone else - plain and simple. The Belgian Beer Cafe group have established themselves in New Zealand as popular places to indulge in that Abbey Ale or oak-aged Lambic with some Belgian (or otherwise) cuisine. De Fontein (Dutch for The Fountain - presumably named after the Mission Bay fountain as Dutch is an official language of Belgium) isn’t the best of the chain as most of the others are in truly unique buildings (RIP Torenhof, Christchurch?). But, excellent balcony seating in the restaurant, and location in trendy Mission Bay means it still makes my hit list of recommended venues in Auckland. The service is generally good and the staff are trained to know the beer menu well. They are also part of the Frenzicard loyalty card group which means you can earn rewards points to the tune of 10%. The only scary part is working out how much you have spent over the past few visits by multiplying your rewards points by 10! De Fontein gets 3.5 stars for its great beer, and knowledgeable staff, but doesn’t score higher due to long waits when busy due to understaffing, and a worrying trend in Auckland of long queues and poor service when it comes to settling the bill. I recommend going there when it isn’t busy.

I can't remember which kinds I ate, but I just know I love it and couldn't stop eating. As well as drinking delicious beer. So trust me on the food. The interior is great, so if you're visiting or hosting some visitors, and want to give them a memorable place to dine with a view, De Fontein is great. It has that old European tavern feel with its dark wood floors and banisters.

Super :)

Great deal 2 for 1 Monday's.  If you love mussels then this is the deal for you, huge 1kg of mussels with fries. Great deal and delicious.

Precisely, but if you are hungry and there are two of you, order with a double side of fries. Truly excellent value.

Neat :)

Love coming down to the Belgium pub mid-week for a glass of wine and the best in the world fries with aioli.

Nice :)

The food here blows my mind.  I didn't expect much from this place but then I ordered a mushroom soup and a chicken crepe.  I can't tell you how impressed I was about the food.  The taste was great, the freshness was awesome, and the food quatity was good too. The price tag can be hefty, above $15 for most dishes but it is well worth the price.  Its situated in Mission Bay, Auckland at peak times it can be a real pain to park there.  But there is parking around the back of the building which is paid, but not everyone knows that you can take your receipt in and get a refund from the restraunt.  So it works out fantastically! Well worth going, take the Mrs along, she'll love it, don't forget dessert downstairs!
