Great, busy, but nice atmosphere. Excellent food, Turbott Sliders and Dog Point sav, fino sherry and oysters. I walked out very impressed. Excellent and highly recommended. Expensive but not crazily so

Nice :)

I had been wanting to try Depot ever since its opening, so I thought my birthday was as good an excuse as any for an (attempted) visit. We arrived at 6pm on a Wednesday night, put my name and mobile number down on the waiting list, then went for a stroll... The staff had estimated about a 30min wait, but after about 50mins we still hadn't heard from them and decided to go back anyway. Turns out by then we were next on the list, so after another 10mins we were seated - an hour all up. It's an oyster bar so I couldn't not order the oysters, and these were not a disappointment - plump and fresh, it came with some sort of wine and shallot dressing, and a thoughtful bottle of tabasco sauce. Next was the meat platter, accompanied by a wickedly spicy yellow mustard and as much extra mini pickles as you wanted. The surprising star of the dish was actually one of the bread crisps, very fragrant and the perfect crunchy texture. After that were the turbot sliders, which Depot is famous for - a delicious mini fish burger served very hot and dripping with tasty, creamy sauce, I was very impressed indeed. Unfortunately our last dish, the pork hock, didn't quite live up to expectations - the meat was tender and the accompanying vegetable bits were tasty enough, but the skin was definitely underdone and therefore quite difficult to eat (or cut with a knife). Overall, a great spot that's certainly got a lot going for it, I'm just not quite sure if everyone would find the long wait worthwhile...

Superb recommend! :)

Before I begin I must let you know that I have nothing bad to say about this ‘Eatery’.  That’s not an easy thing to admit and I will probably eventually find something minor.  For now though, I will attempt to share with you the exquisite visit I had to Depot on this fine Sunday night. We had attempted to go on three earlier occasions and had been thwarted by long waiting lists.  This time I had cleared the schedule and we were in for the long haul.  ‘Depot’ you would be mine.  We put our name down on the list (not as long tonight), were informed of a 30 to 45 minute wait, handed over the credit card and made our way outside with the wine list.  The ‘outside’ is a covered area on the footpath – warmed by some wonderfully efficient bar heaters (and helped along nicely by the body heat of the other fellow would-be diners).  We had not stood two minutes when the charming waiter (female) collected our drinks order.  One soda, one Tuatara tap beer.  The quaint 7oz glass went down fairly quickly.  It was a good beer and the soda came in the bottle alongside the glass. While we waited, one of the outside bar spaces came available.  We decided to perch ourselves out here – away from the cacophony of the interior.  The weather was fairly warm for mid-May and we could hear ourselves think.  As is the way, our reservation came available just after we sat ourselves down but we chose to stay outside.  The menus were brought out fairly quickly and with some ease we ordered both our starter and mains immediately.

Busy times for Depot. It’s just chocker. You can’t book so I recommend you get there early doors. We were too late…. Good people watching though. We made it back for breakfast, only 3 things on the menu. Muesli, doughnuts ( they had another name!) and a bacon and egg roll , which we chose. The coffee was lovely and we scoffed the rolls.. They were YUM! After seeing the doughnuts we couldn’t resist ordering and were not disappointed. Fab decor and atmosphere. Watch this space as we attempt making it for dinner there.

Super :)

My previous review waxed lyrical about the beer, wine and oysters... This time around I'm going to bang on about the food. OH MY GOD, it's amazing! Those sliders will make you wish you'd ordered nothing else your entire life; ever. Words, really can't explain how amazingly tasty those wee burgers are. Ok—how about the pork carnitas? Yes—those, too, are amazing! I'm pretty sure I tasted some Asian style seasoning which just pushes it way, way above most other pork dishes. If that isn't enough to get you there then you're probably dead. The wait to get in is well worth it, so don't delay! Get your good selves down to depot NOW!

Partner and i went here for lunch. we were smart and got here early as it got packed fast! We ordered the chicken and were told it would be a half hour wait because it takes half an hour to cook the chicken. ; P it was bang on half an hour wait, but we were served some pita bread and dips  to tire us over for free. i enjoyed the pinot noir 'tap wine', was really nice. Chicken arrived and it was just stunning. absolutely amazing. we should of just ordered that but i ordered a side of potato skins as i wasn't sure of the portion size of the platter. the potato skins were unfortunately average, wont be getting them again, but will return for the chicken and the great atmosphere of the place. top notch!

Depot is easily one of my favourite restaurants and since it's right by work, I often head there to get my coffee during the day (and have rated it highly before). I ate there once when it first opened but we were in a rush, so it was nice to be able to go there for a more leisurely evening meal. The central city is often pretty quiet on a Monday but as soon as we approached the doors we realised that wasn't the case with Depot. There were people spilling out onto the sidewalk, gathered around tables and chatting away happily - inside, more of same. It was warm, it felt friendly and it was alive with the energy, noise and happiness of the guests.

I think about those sliders so often... it's obscene!

The food is always amazing and cooked to perfection! The potato skins with Porchini salt are divine, save room for desert as the custard that comes with many of the desserts is to die for! I always come out feeling obese but it is well worth
