Depot lives up to the hype - exceeds it, even. Excellent, attentive service, mouthwatering dishes (fresh oysters, snapper sliders, pork carnitas, pork hock w/ apple & horseradish salsa verde were just a few of the things we tried) and wine on tap - go for the Pinot Noir. Because we had to wait a while in between courses, they brought out complimentary strawberries and dessert wine. Perhaps because it's the summer season, but these strawberries were the best I have EVER tasted - sweet, ripe perfection. I'd go back to Depot in a heartbeat and intend to as soon as I'm back in Auckland!
My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE Depot! Al Brown is a truly wonderful chef and we love how we always see him helping out in the restaurant, clearing tables etc, so down to earth and not what you'd expect from someone which is so well-known & successful! We've been several times now and it's been even better each time! (Which is pretty hard to achieve, as it was amazing the first time we went!) The menu is mainly tapas-sized dishes, but with a more kiwi/British style. e.g fish sliders, mini yorkshire puddings filled with lamb, char-grilled steak etc. The oysters are absolutely divine and I love how you can sit at the bar and watch them being shucked! The quality of the food is really outstanding. The atmosphere is really bustling and it's ALWAYS busy! You can't book in advance, so be prepared to wait a while if there's more than a couple of you. It's all good though, as you can stay outside with a drink whilst you wait. You can sit outside in the summer or stay toasty-warm inside the rest of the year. It's open early morning till late at night, every day of the week. We usually go for a late lunch and a few wines when we're in the city, but any time is a good time to go to Depot! Get yourself down there! :-)

Headed by acclaimed NZ chef Al Brown, these spot only serve Bacon and Egg Doonas, Muesli and Beignets for breakfast, essentially covering all necessary options. Teamed up with a fresh, strong coffee (beans by Havana), the Doonas - as you may be able to tell from this pic - are particularly moreish.
