I like poached eggs for breakfast. I always get them with roast tomatoes on the side when I'm ordering breakfast at a new cafe. It's my control order. So I can weigh all the cafes up fairly. But Dizengoff doesn't have roast tomatoes, so I ordered mushrooms. Which is deeply unfair to all the other tomato bearing cafes. Because Dizengoff's mushrooms are THAT delicious. The poached eggs were perfect too. And the coffee. The only reason Diz didn't get a 5 star rating is because they didn't wipe the table. And that's it and that's all.
Yes, Dizengoff does great coffee but it’s the food that makes this café special. Everything is delicious, you honestly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. My favourites are the creamy mushrooms, the mushroom bagel and the muesli, which comes with either fresh or stewed fruit. Not only that but the people who run this café are lovely down-to earth sorts. I rate Dizengoff very highly indeed!
Of course, you can't keep going back to the same cafe for brunch EVERY week. But I can assure you, Dizengoff is definitely my all time favourite to come back to. Went for the first time in ages last weekend and they are still tops. It was raining and Saturday so the place was packed - and there is very little room to move. The staff were still friendly and efficient though, and the food and coffee arrived fast and deliciously. Get the mushrooms - as a side at least.
On the way to drop a friend at her early morning bus-out-of-town we drove down a deserted Ponsonby Road just after 7am. Many others were closed but Dizengoff were open and fairly full. I ordered a Green Tea and Salmon Eggs Benedict, my friend had the Porridge and a Latte. One thing that is very annoying to a tea drinker is the dribbly tea-pot. No such dribbly tea-pot here. Sounds like a small thing but it's really not. The Bene was good - lots of salmon though I would have liked a little more of the yummy hollandaise. The Porridge was enormous, was topped with walnuts and came with a side tray of breakfast condiments. The coffee was also given the thumbs up. Cannot recommend it enough.
