The Duke Carvell's Swan Lane Emporium is one of Wellington's hidden gems. Open for brunch, lunch and late into the evening for drinks and dinner.
A tapas style menu in the evening means your dishes are best suited to a communal
dining experience. Great, helpful staff work in a quirky and relaxed atmosphere with an outstanding courtyard open day and nights.
On Mondays the Duke offers a 2-4-1 deal. Buy any two dishes and get one of them for free (lowest priced item).

I lead a bit of a private life (or try to!) and don't enjoy going on dates in the obvious jaunts where I'm going to bump into Tom, Dick and Harry. So if I'm to treat a lucky lass and take her out, the first place I always choose is Dukes. I'm a big fan of their outdoor courtyard and their hidden location. The tapas-esque menu takes away the 'awkward' factor too, as sharing food always eases a conversation, I've found! Delicious food, beautiful date, sunshine in a courtyard and hidden from the locals - This top secret dater is sold.
I really like Duke's. If I'm feeling a little blurry from the night before, its dim warmth is always an attractive option to burrow into. The staff are lovely, as is the food. Especially for brunch. Look out for their Poached eggs, rosti, peas and watercress dish. There's also an outside-but-inside area, if you're a smoker.
