When I was younger my mum made a watery, tomato based sausage casserole nearly every week. I was a fan, and the dish instilled within me a love of sausages. You can imagine how excited I was to come accross Frankies Wurstblade, a shop dedicated to quality sausages. I opted for the sausage meal and chose the special of the week, a hot and spicy griller. The spicy stick of meat was accompanied by a generous portion of fries, cheese, salad and sauerkraut. The plate was huge and everything on it was tasty especially the sausage. The service was helpful and the food was speedily delivered. If you’re a sausage fan, this is the place for you.
God only knows why there aren't more gourmet sausage places around Auckland. My father is from Denmark, and the street-side Pølsevogns (literally 'sausage wagon') that dot Copenahen are one of the best things about visting the city. Frankie's provides a similar experience, albeit from a fixed location in the swanky Elliott Stables. The owner (Frankie? You'd hope so) really knows and loves sausages, and offers a wide range of smallgoods served with a choice of breads and toppings/sauces. I've tried a fair few over the last few years, and none have disappointed. They also stock a nice range of drinks, and serve up incredible fried potatoes. Actually, I'm salivating just writing this review. Highly recommended for a lunch stop when you're in the Auckland CBD.
I love this place! Elliot St Stables is fantastic! I wandered around for ages last night - back and forth, back and forth - until finally I settled on a sausage. I was off to Chris Cornell and didn't feel like a big meal so I went for the Sausage, chips and salad. I really should have gone for the bread. Alongside your sausage comes free toppings - caramelised onions, sauerkraut, cheese etc... and it didn't pack the same punch NOT all smooshed together in a bun. The sausage was ace - they have vege ones too! Polite and efficient service. Loved it!
