I’m a big fan of the Hallertau Luxe, or ‘No. 1’, beer at Golden Dawn, it keeps me coming back - and same with the courtyard, it’s the ideal spot for a drink with your pals. On the odd occasion I’ll have three or four Hallertau’s and that’s when the ‘secret urinal’ at Golden Dawn is super handy - it’s just what I need for my small but powerful bladder…(dudes who’ve been to the bar before will know what I mean!)

    great location and great customer serivce

      Golden Dawn is deliberately hard to find but I think that is the point. Makes it more cool. So once you do find the door and the way inside it is fun bar. A bit of a hodge-podge interior wise but it all works.

        Great music, great beers, the best cocktail mixologist in town, great atmoshere, and always fun!

          OK, it's Ponsonby but they just have the best music, has that hidden away vibe, interesting food, so definitely worth the drive!

            great place to go if you are going to get stood up! met an albanian air host and a scottish barrister and they were way more fun! even the doormans great for a d &m while you wait...

            Unique drinks, great vegetarian food and live music - whats not to like?

              Food and drinks are excellent ! Love to come back to it one day.

                I think I saw my favourite show in Auckland here - twas a summery eve and Connan Mockasin played out in the courtyard - oh wowee. A cat walk on a line of tables that was organised, a stellar rendition of ‘Remember the Time’ by Michael Jackson, topped with a bunch of friendly, eager faces made this night rocket to the top of the list. Their weekly diverse shows are worth checking out.

                  The Tavern of Power is my favourite bar in Ponsonby. Great music, awesome food, killer wine list and Hallertau on tap. The laptop DJ’s crack me up also. What happened to 2 turntables and a mixer?

                    This is one of those places that is tucked away in an nondescript building on the corner of two busy roads. When you walk in you feel like you are in another city. Always really good energy and has a great creative vibe, you just need to experience for yourself.
