If you couldn’t guess by now, Taranaki really loves the work and design of Len Lye, there’s now a whole new section in the art gallery that has been created just for him called the ‘Len Lye Centre! The exterior design of the building is beautiful, with wave like curves that are mirrored and distort you if you stand in front of them! At sunset it reflects the light and looks absolutely stunning!

    The time has finally come for our new art gallery to open its doors. This month, Govett Brewster has its grand re-opening; it starts at nine in the morning so make sure to dress warm. I love all the reflective metal they’ve used for the side of the building, it’s an architectural dream, dedicated to Len Lye (the same person who designed our famous wind wand), and from the opening day onwards, there are various activities you can take part in to do with the Len Lye and his work.

      New Zealand’s finest contemporary art gallery and home to the collection of kinetic sculptor and filmaker Len Lye. You’ll be inspired by their regular changing exhibitions and a collection that is envied by galleries throughout the world. Free entry. A must for art lovers and novices alike!

        Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is New Plymouth's leading gallery. It is home to many inspiring Len Lye pieces but also features art from a range of national and international artists. You can easily spend a whole day in here - and if you want a break, there's always Cafe Govett-Bewster in the same building!
