Take the family on a 1hr boat tour along the gorgeous Coromandel coast and land in Cathedral Cove. What I love about this area is the water is so often calm and clear- so you can peer down and spot fish and all sorts! Picnic or have a BBQ at Hahei Beach after your trip. Plenty of space for an afternoon of beach games!
