Busy for a reason: it’s great. Unfortunately an excellent selection of cakes too…

Love the mushrooms on toast all organic and so good!

Amazing food and coffee is lovely and strong, average service

If you're on the Shore, head down to Jam Organic Cafe in Takapuna for great organic coffee and treats which are baked in their on-site bakery. Great local atmosphere and the best service from the delightful Jules and co :-)

Exploring Takapuna today and in need of sustenance I remembered  friends had told me about Jam so I though we'd try and track it down.  I spotted the outdoor seating area under the big Pohutakawa so knew we were heading in the right direction.  The menu is to die for with so many tasty sounding meals to choose from : crepes with lemon ricotta filling ($13), crumpets and golden syrup ($7.50), warm breakfast salad ($15) and Jam-style hash ($15.50) to name just a few. We went for the Jam Hash and Warm breakfast Salad. Both came on hot dishes, with generous servings and were perfectly cooked. The poached eggs were just right, the mushrooms and tomatoes with the salad tasted like ones from the garden (everything is organic, free range and hormone-free). The hash cake was potatoey, oniony and the bacon the right amount of crispy. Sadly, the servings were so generous there was no room for home-baked goodies from the counter. With happy smiley staff it was a great experience and one I shall go back for as I need to try out some of the pastries.

Jam is tucked away off the main stretch of Hurstmere Rd, but being slightly hidden hasn't stopped people from flocking here for lunch, and at peak times this place is literally jam-packed. If you can grab a seat though, it's worth the visit. They have a wide selection of both cabinet and cooked food in generous portions, each dish having its own special thing that raises it above being just another average cafe. I was a bit sad when they stopped making their pea risotto, but having a changing menu means regulars won't get bored. I recommend the panini as a more economical yet still very filling option! Unfortunately the coffee doesn't seem to have quite that same x factor, but there's no harm in getting a Phoenix juice instead. Great on a sunny Takapuna afternoon.

Great little cafe tucked away off Hurstmere Road. The Famous Beef Burger deserves it's fame and the chicken salad is epic. Great coffee but be warned, can be very busy due to it's great reputation.
