The best place I have found to stock up on thermals before a winter trip away is Kathmandu on Broadway. The staff are super helpful and the place is huge, meaning they have all the options and all situations covered. They also gave great kidswear that is cute as well as cosy.

Kathmandu is good in that it enables people to get outdoor gear at a semi decent price so that they can get used to things...but once you do you notice how crap the quality really is. I would recommend never ever buying Kathmandu branded hiking boots. Terrible comfort and style. When they have sales though, you can get some non-kathmandu branded stuff quite cheaply. Their walking poles from other companies are great, and their clothes are actually not too bad. Its a great place to stock up on thermals for a decent price that are great at keeping you warm.

When I go overseas to some exotic and far flung locale, I always pay a quick visit to Kathmandu.  They have a mean range of backpacks and travelling equipment, including all those strange little bottles with the charcoal filters. There stuff always seems really high quality, and is made tough and strong.  The only downside is the price.  Everything seems to cost a bit, which is sometimes justified... sometime not. On a different note, some of my female friends descend into hysterics when I tell them about the She-wee.  You should check it out...
