The last time i was here I was posting a tapa cloth back to the UK. After reading the menu from cover to cover I realised there was no meat! Maybe there's a deli nearby where I can grab a hunk of salami or dried biltong....but it worked, I came out sated, happy and with a nice tasty coffee buzz. No visit to the deli needed. The hash with beets, egg and hollondaise was delicious topped with vibrant atmosphere in surroundings that reminded me of NYC meat packing district. My colleague had scrambled eggs on sour dough with greens. A vibrant bright and tasty dish. Nice touches are the water in old beer bottles, table service and morning sun streaming in. Great for a date, work mate meet, chill and eat or coffee and food on the run.
As well as providing some of Auckland's best coffee to many of our local cafés, Kokako have been forerunners of the current move towards fair trade, organic and all 'round ethically-minded fare. Proving vegetarian can be done very well, their menu is meat-free - and they also sport a cabinet full of well-priced veggie and vegan delights.
It's not often you find lunch in the $5 price range which is also seriously flavourful. Grey Lynn café and coffee roastery Kokako offer excellent veggie and vegan wraps at a very nice price, which come served with salad when you eat in. Yet another reason to frequent this great, ethically-minded café.
Kokako is my pick of the bunch when it comes to caffine kicks in Grey Lynn. It’s interior reminds me of Cafe Supreme, and the similarity doesn’t stop there as they also roast their own beans. I haven’t indulged in breakfast yet but have had good reports! The coffee is always consistent and the cold filter coffee is a soft, refreshing drop well worth investigating.
Last week I got the best muffins from here. Blueberry and white chocolate, it was awesome. The staff are always polite, service is always quick, for the price I paid I beleieve it was great value for money. I would highly recommend this place and will probably be back sonner rather than later. 5 stars !!! Keep up the great work!! : )
