Vegan banana bread and almond milk chai latte. Addicted.

I love the decor here and while overall the food is very tasty a few of their meals let them down a bit. Would definitely recommend though.

It's hard to rate a vego cafe anything but perfect (to encourage other vege places) but there are parts of Kokako that let them down. Had heard great things about Kokako's new cafe in Grey Lynn so decided to give it a go. The only other experience I'd had before was at the Parnell one a couple of years ago - the food took ages to come out and when I asked if it was far away (we were on a work schedule) the staff member said it was just coming out. After it still hadn't come out I asked again how far away our food was and the woman got snooty. Then our meals came out at different times so one person had finished their lunch by the time the last person's meal arrived. Then I saw the staff member who'd been snotty earlier gesturing over to us as she spoke to another staff member.  After that experience I had never been back but thought I'd give them another go at their new locale. The decor is great. Crisp white tiles, black and white floor tiles, modern chairs, lots of light, and interesting layout of tables. They’ve made really good use of the space. It's perfect for the vignette app on my phone - see pic. Unfortunately, even though there were about 8 staff (two on drinks and two cooking) our hot drinks took quite a while to arrive. The food was nice. Bit on the pricey side too. The staff were very nice but a bit slow and forgetful. It was a new menu so maybe that’s why. Mega points for organics, free-range and vegetarian food!

Kokako opened without much fanfare but has since become the place to eat! So much so that it can be hard to get in the door just to order a takeaway coffee. But the coffee is worth the wait! Have yet to try the menu food but cabinet slices and muffins have always done the trick!

Pro: Organic food and coffee, very yummy (brekky, coffee, muffins, smoothies...), great variety of coffees to choose from, very friendly staff, nice atmosphere.  Tiny con: no wifi.

This is a wonderful place, every single aspect has been well thought out and executed perfectly. The coffee here is superb, using their own fair trade and organic blends. The slow-brewed coffee is a revelation, and at 500ml a serve, with milk additional

It is exceptional value. The counter selection is ample, and caters for everybody. The vegan banana bread is sublime, and moist and perfect. The brownies are superlative. You can tell the attention to detail and the choice of ingredients second to none. The design is airy and light, it is a bright welcoming space and haven inside a row of shos that at best can be described as full of character. This used to be the old grey Lynn post office, so instead of a back room or tiny bathroom you have to squeeze in like a lot of places, instead there is a wheel chair friendly bathroom downstairs as well as ample facilities upstairs( you have to think of these things when you're a mum), I only wish there was a change table. Then this would be the best cafe in the whole world!

always friendly staff, great prices and food

I have a control breakfast. It's poached eggs on toast with roast tomatoes on the side and a flat white. Every time I go to a new cafe, I order my control breakfast so I can fairly judge the cafe against all the others. A good rating is 7/10. A great rating is 8/10. Kokako got a 9/10. The poached eggs were fricken perfect. The toasted brioche, sublime. The roasted tomatoes were sweet and delicious and the coffee was fantastic. And although the service was friendly and quick, they did forget to bring the tomatoes (which prevented them from clocking up that rarest of rare scores, a perfect 10). Go to Kokako but if you're there on the weekend, go early to beat the rush.
